I had a great day on Saturday at ALA in Washington, DC, signing KEEPER OF THE LIGHT in the Abrams booth and PLANTING A GARDEN in the Charlesbridge booth, and cruising the aisles of the exhibit hall to see all the publishers' new books!

And thanks to Donna Spurlock, Meg Quinn, Lindsay and Jaliza, and everyone in the Charlesbridge booth for coordinating my signing there. At both booths we ran out of books before the hour was over! It was great meeting librarians from so many places.

I also stopped by the Junior Library Guild booth and posed for a photo with PLANTING A GARDEN IN ROOM 6 which was a Spring selection.

Everyone in the convention center was required to be vaccinated and wear a mask (although I took mine off briefly for the photos.) Everyone, including me, seemed happy to be at a live, real person event!

I am planning to be at the American Library Association (ALA) conference in Washington, DC, at the end of June. I will be signing Keeper of the Light: Juliet Fish Nichols Fights the San Francisco Fog in the Abrams booth on Saturday, June 25th, 11:00-11:30 am. I will sign  Planting a Garden in Room 6: From Seeds to Salad in the Charlesbridge Booth the same day, June 25th at 2pm.

My newest book, KEEPER OF THE LIGHT: Juliet Fish Nichols Fights the San Francisco Fog (Cameron Kids/Abrams), beautifully illustrated with watercolor paintings by Rachell Sumpter is now available. Hurrah! Many thanks to my editor Amy Novesky and everyone at Cameron Kids for all their hard work to bring this book to fruition!

KEEPER OF THE LIGHT: Juliet Fish Nichols Fights the San Francisco Fog tells of the heroic efforts of Juliet Fish Nichols, lighthouse keeper on Angel Island in San Francisco Bay from 1902 to 1914, who stood at her post for three fog shrouded days in the summer of 1906, ringing the fog bell by hand when the automated mechanism failed. At the time, the bay was filled with ships bringing supplies to San Francisco after the recent devastating earthquake.  With reduced visibility, boats needed the bell to warn them away from the rocky shoreline. Juliet Fish Nichols’ perseverance at her post during those foggy days was key to preventing further possible disaster. This is the dramatic story of a woman who didn’t give up, despite bad weather and equipment failure.

With many thanks to my editor Amy Novesky for guiding the book through the publishing process and for helping me bring the text to life. I am also grateful to the staff at Angel Island State Park for their assistance.

The book is filled with beautiful watercolor illustrations by Rachell Sumpter, ....and...when you remove the jacket, the book cover is designed to look like Juliet's journal! (Her real lighthouse log was the basis for my story!) The book comes out April 12th. To preorder, click HERE.

When it rains it pours. After no new books since 2019, I have two books coming out this spring, this one and PLANTING A GARDEN IN ROOM 6: From Seeds to Salad. They will have to take turns as I go out to promote them!
